Local Rules & Handicapping

Over the past few weeks, the Club was forced to introduce several additional Local Rules, due to the floods and the subsequent damage received to the course.

The decision to not handicap any competition play was based upon the introduction of these additional Local Rules and in the case of the Old and West Courses, players were only able to play 17 holes (8th hole out of play).

We have recently consulted Golf Australia (GA) to determine whether it is appropriate to handicap players when they are only able to play 17 holes. GA has since confirmed that this is possible and sent through the following extract from the World Handicapping System.

The following conditions will apply to 8-17 hole scores: (i) Where 16-17 holes inclusive have been played, the player will be deemed to have had net par for the remaining holes (unless it is considered the player has discontinued play with a view to achieving a specific score for handicap purposes). The score will be processed as an 18-hole score.

Although there is significant rectification work still to be completed on several holes, it has been deemed that the majority of the course will no longer require ‘Tee Up’ to be in effect, however the 1 Club Length in the General Area shall remain in place.

With this in mind, and where applicable, Competition Play from Saturday April 9th, will see handicapping recommence.

The current Local Rules will now reflect the above decision and we would encourage all Members to familiarise themselves with these changes, which will be displayed on the Starters Box.
