Club Championships Gents & Women’s 2025 – Updated Results

Today marked the conclusion of this year’s Women’s and Gents Club Championship, bringing to a close what has been an especially challenging period for both management and participants. The championship schedule was significantly affected by the persistent poor weather conditions that have plagued the region ever since Cyclone Alfred swept across the coast in early March.

Despite these disruptions, the club would like to extend its sincere appreciation and congratulations to all members for the patience, understanding, and good spirit you have demonstrated throughout this difficult period. The frequent need to reschedule was inevitable given the circumstances, and it was acknowledged early on that such changes might interfere with some Members’ ability to fully participate in the event.

Nonetheless, the vast majority of Members responded with patience and cooperation and your flexibility and continued support have been vital in ensuring the successful conclusion of the 2025 Championships.

Moving on to the final results.

In the Women’s Championship Savanah rains held a narrow 2 shot lead over defending Champion, Julie Lakotij, however in the end it was Julie who would prevail by the narrowest of margins, securing a 1 shot victory to take the title.

In the Gents Championship, 2023 and 2024 Champion, Wesley Hinton held the lead going into the final round with Cooper Field, Luke Brumpton and Chase Duffy all tied 9 shots adrift.

The gap would prove to be unassailable with Wesley posting another fine round of 70 winning by 8 shots from Ben Dowling, who fired a bogey free 4 under 67 to vault his way up to second. This win makes it 3 consecutive Club Championships, a feat which was last achieved by Club legend Peter Wardrop from 1973-75.

President’s Half Year Report

As we move into winter, I’d like to share an update on club operations, course developments, and upcoming projects.

Despite an exceptionally wet summer and the recent flooding caused by “Cyclone Alfred,” the golf course remains in good condition. The weather, unfortunately, forced significant disruption to daily competitions, the Club Championships, and the Keperra Bowl. Our Golf Operations team did their utmost to reallocate tee times and keep us playing, but in many instances, the weather simply prevailed.

A sincere thank you to the members who responded to the call for assistance during the clean-up effort. Your support, combined with the tireless work of our course maintenance team, played a vital role in getting the course back in play sooner than expected.

Clubhouse Refurbishment – Lower Level

Following a thorough and competitive tender process, we are now finalising the appointment of a builder to undertake the long-anticipated refurbishment of the clubhouse’s lower level. Members will be notified of the successful contractor once the agreement is finalised.

This is a major project, and as such, will bring some unavoidable disruption:

• The entire lower level will need to be vacated during construction.
• The Golf Shop will be temporarily relocated.
• Members will be required to remove all personal items from the locker rooms and buggy storage.
• Toilet facilities will be affected, and temporary arrangements will be communicated in advance.

We are targeting completion before Christmas 2025. We ask for your patience and understanding during this time. Our staff will also be working through the same disruption and will do their best to ensure a smooth transition.

We are pleased to confirm that this refurbishment will be fully funded from Club reserves. While this will draw down on our savings, our financial position remains sound.

Importantly, this project will significantly enhance member amenity and raise the profile of Keperra to a level we can all be proud of – a facility we look forward to showcasing to friends, family, and visitors.

Course Projects – Holes 7 & 8

The retaining wall on the 8th hole is entering its final stages, and construction of the green will commence on June 1st.  The plan for the new green is on display in the Club Bar.

As part of our broader course improvement strategy:

• The 7th green will undergo a complete rebuild in conjunction with the work on hole 8.
• David Burrup has been appointed as the contractor for both green projects. David’s work is already well-regarded at Keperra, with recent success seen in the 16th/21st Hole Dam, Practice Fairway Redevelopment, and the recently added new tee blocks.

Constitution Review

Our Constitution Review is now underway. Information sessions and Q&A opportunities will be communicated to all members shortly. This is a vital piece of governance work to ensure our rules remain fit for purpose into the future.

In closing

The coming months will bring considerable disruption to both the clubhouse and the front nine of the course. However, the long-term benefits of these works will significantly enhance your experience at Keperra.

Once again, I encourage everyone to remain patient and supportive throughout this period. Your cooperation – and assistance, where possible – will make a big difference.

A Grade Gents & Women’s Championship – Update 15/04/2025

Club Championships / Gents A Grade & Women’s Championship

We have once again been forced to look at a revised format for this year’s Gents and Women’s Club Championships. Changes to scheduled events, particularly, multi-round events are always problematic, and we recognise the likelihood that some members may be adversely impacted by this decision, however It is a club priority to complete the Championships.

We plan to play the 2^nd and Final Rounds of the Gents A Grade Championship over the weekend of April 26^th & 27^th. All scores either completed or non-completed, from Saturday 12^th of April have been cancelled. For Saturday 26th of April those players who had previously elected for an AM / PM tee time, you will remain in these blocks.

The club has been in contact with Golf Australia and has been advised of the following. With respect to those players who were previously unavailable to play on Saturday the 12^th of April, but are now able to play at the rescheduled date, will not be permitted to rejoin the Championships as this round had officially commenced. This is also the case for any player who elected not to return to the course after play had resumed, once the suspension of play had been lifted.

Any players who are unavailable to participate on the revised dates are asked, are to contact Peter Zealley at peterz@keperragolf.com.au and not remove their name from the timesheet.

As previously communicated prior to the incompleted 2^nd round on Saturday the 12^th of April, the A Grade Matchplay qualification will be determined over 36 holes (after Saturday 26^th April), with the top 16 gross scores in each grade to qualify. The Golf Australia Countback System (if required) will decide all ties.  Saturday 26th April will also see the conclusion of the Seniors, Veterans and Junior Gross; and the Nett event.

The Final Round will be played on Sunday 27th April commencing at approximately 10:15am on the Old Course. There will be a 36-hole cut in the Gents A Grade, a maximum of 20 players (gross scores), players will be given the option to play the final round. (no obligation) In the event of a tie, a playoff will decide the winner, as determined by the Golf Operations Team.

As the Women’s Championship have completed 36 holes already the Final Round will be played on Sunday 27^th April, commencing at approximately 10:15am. The Women’s field will be a maximum of 8 players (gross scores) players will be given the option to play the final round. (no obligation) In the event of a tie, a playoff will decide the winner, as determined by the Golf Operations Team.

The draw for the Final Round (Sunday 27th) will be loaded onto the website timesheet by 6pm Saturday 26th of April. Players are responsible for reviewing the Sunday Timesheet to confirm whether they have made the cut, and if so their scheduled tee time. After the release of the timesheet, any players wishing to withdraw on the Sunday, are to contact Peter Zealley at peterz@keperragolf.com.au

The Golf Operations Team always reserve the right to make alterations to player’s times, draw & championship conditions. (Alterations /changes of this type will be communicated via the Club’s Website.)
