June Snapshot

Course News

The Course and Maintenance Team have been active in oversewing selected Tees and Greens. More specifically, this has involved Tees 24 and 26 with Rye Grass and Greens 7/8/17 with Bent Grass. It is anticipated that the oversewing will provide these tees and greens with a little more protection over the colder months.

The condition of greens on 7/8/17 has again become a seasonal concern primarily due to their locations and the poor growing conditions that come with excessive shade, lack of airflow, and, in some instances, tree roots. Identifying the reasons for these issues is somewhat the easy part, but achieving a solution is an ongoing challenge due to vegetation & environmental regulations that apply in these areas.

The upgrading of drainage between holes 1/10/18 will commence on Monday 10th June (and is expected to finish Tuesday). The improvements will include the addition of new access pits. Minor repairs to the causeway on hole 7 are also planned as part of the contractor's scope of work.

As the Team moves into its Winter Maintenance program, we have prioritised an audit on the bunkers, focusing on drainage and sand depths, tree trimming to improve airflow and light throughout the course and inspecting sprinkler heads for effectiveness.

Ladies pennants

Keperra's Weekend Ladies Pennant Team had it all to play for on Sunday 26th of May. Despite only requiring a draw to secure the title, there were a few forced changes to the team , with injury and other commitments requiring a reshuffle.

After some tight losses in 3 of the first 4 matches, the Ladies were able to steady the ship securing 2 wins and a half out of the final 3 games to ensure the result with Royal Queensland would end in at 3.5 - 3.5 and the valuable tie that would secure the overall title.

The Ladies Sapphire Weekday Pennants wrapped up on Friday the 31st of May. Our ladies had a solid season, finishing 4th overall, culminating in a narrow loss to Virginia 4 points to 3.

Congratulations to all the Ladies who represented Keperra so magnificently throughout the season and of course winning the Pennant.

Tee Upgrade project

Club Management is pleased to share that the Club was recently successful with a Grant application via the Department of Tourism and Sports, Minor Infrastructure and Inclusive Facilities Fund.  The Club has secured funding of $187,000 to support a Tee Block Project which will include the addition of new and refurbished tees on holes 2/3/7/18/20/24/27 with the total project cost in the vicinity of $234,000.  These works will form the start of an annual commitment to renovating and upgrading tees.  The project is expected to start on the 15th of July with a construction period of approximately 8 weeks followed by a grow in period of approximately 16 weeks.

GentS Foursomes

Sunday saw the annual Gents Foursomes take place with 140 players teaming up in this alternate shot event. Thankfully the forecast weather didn't eventuate with clear skies and a cool breeze greeting those putting their friendships to the ultimate test.

Defending Champions Matt Dowling and Gavin Chapman were looking to add to their already impressive tally of 9 times Foursomes Champions, spanning all the way back to their first title in 2005.

After the first 18 holes the defending champions had a narrow 2 shot buffer over perennial rivals Daniel Butler and Luke Simpson.

However proving to be a dark horse was the combination of Jarrod Mann and Michael Carruthers who also shot 78 in the morning round after being 9 over through 12 holes.

What was promising to be a tight tussle ended up a runaway victory with Mann and Carruthers shooting a fine round of 2 under 70 to finish with a 6 shot victory over the Defending Champions.

Gents A/B/C matchplay championships

A Grade

The A Grade Final was contested between number 4 seed Jarrod Mann and 10th seed Luke Brumpton. Luke had an impressive run to the final defeating 2 previous Club Champions. Jarrod performed consistently throughout the event, despite getting pushed to extra holes in his semifinal. In the end however, it would be Jarrod prevailing, going on to record a 4 & 3 victory.

B Grade

Will Carty and Paul Argent would contest the B Grade Final with both players narrowly surviving their semifinal encounters, Will winning 1up whilst Paul required 20 holes to finally get past his opponent. The Final however, wouldn't require an additional holes with Will going on to record a 2 & 1 victory over Paul.

C Grade

The form from the Club Championships obviously continued for our C Grade contestants, with the #1 seed, Trent Bucholz going up against the 2 seed, in Mark Harrington. Both players were taken to the 19th in their semifinal matches and this theme would continue in the final with 20 holes being required to determine the winner. Mark would get the job done at the end of the day, going on to secure the title.

Congratulations to all those who took part in this year's event, and of course to our deserved champions.

ladies Midweek Championships

The final round of the Ladies Midweek Championships took place in May, with all 3 grades being tightly contested.

In the fight for Midweek Gross Champion, it came down to a battle between 2, with Jemma Leonard holding a narrow 1 shot lead over defending Champion Angela Gordon, going into the final round. After a tightly contested front 9, Angela looked to put her foot down with back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11, however Jemma played steady golf down the stretch as Angela struggled with the challenging finish of holes 16 through 18. In the end it was Jemma who would prevail by 2 shots to secure her first Midweek Gross Championship.

In the Midweek Nett Championship, it was Ally Maguire who would take the spoils with a total of 144 nett. It was a day to remember for Ally as she also took out the A Grade and Senior Nett Champion titles.

Congratulations must also go out to the following players who managed to win in the following categories.

B Grade Gross - Pat Connor 197 gross

C Grade Gross - Sue Collins 219 gross

course care

As the colder temperatures are now well and truly upon us, the Club would ask that Members take a little extra time while repairing their pitch marks on greens and divots in fairways.  The slower rate of repair is an unfortunate consequence of the low temperatures and every little makes a difference.
