Peter Senior receives King's Birthday Honour

Congratulations to KCGC's Life Member Peter Senior on his King's Birthday Honour List inclusion awarded this month by Governor General David Hurley.  Peter started playing his junior golf at Keperra back in the 70's alongside his Brother Jeff, Len and Brad, with Brad still a long-term valued staff member on the Course / Maintenance Team.

A true international Golfer, Peter won 35 times as a professional, including 21 victories on the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia, as well as wins on the DP World Tour and Japan Golf Tour.  A three time winner of the Australian PGA Championship, and twice the ISPS HANDA Australian Open, Senior's first and last PGA Tour of Australasia wins remarkably came 36 years apart, with the 64-year-old winning on Tour in five different decades.

On behalf of the Club along with it's Members, we wish to congratulate Peter on being awarded such a high honour.

Chris McCourt

Resident Teaching Professional, Chris McCourt, will be taking some time away from the club to take up some playing opportunities on the Queensland leg of the Legends Tour. At this stage we expect Chris to be gone until early September. There may be occasions when Chris is available over the next 2 months and if this does eventuate a notification will be placed on the club website.

This situation will provide an opportunity for our 2nd year Associate PGA Professional Jordan Rooke (photo below) to conduct lessons. For those Members unfamiliar with Jordan please read on below for some background into Jordan's Coaching and Golfing experience.

My name is Jordan Rooke and I am a 2nd Year PGA Associate and have been working at the club for nearly 2 years. I have loved working at the club and excited for the future and to be able to offer coaching services. Some of my achievements thus far as a PGA Associate are finishing 2nd on the Queensland Trainee order of merit in 2023, have had 4 wins and finished Top 10 in the National Trainee Championships 2023. I am now excited to bring my knowledge of the game to the members of the club with coaching. I will be available Wednesday, Thursday and some Friday's and Saturday's. I will be offering an introductory rate of $70 for 1-hour and $40 for 30min lessons. Please feel free to speak to me or the contact the golf shop for more information.

During Chris's absence PGA Professional - Virginia Irwin will also be available for limited coaching opportunities as will PGA Professional - Peter Zealley (contact via email at peterz@keperragolf.com.au)

Course News

Members will have noticed the Course and Maintenance Team have been busy over the last week clearing out the back of the 17th Green (LHS) and the 20th Tee Block (LHS) to increase airflow to the areas.  Furthermore, drainage works have been completed on the RHS of the 18th fairway (bottom of hill) with the Team also progressing through the course's bunkers, specifically upgrading and repairing the drainage systems as needed.

Excitingly the Tee Project mentioned earlier in this newsletter will commence this week.  Some minor inconvenience is expected and as always, the Club appreciates Member patience while course upgrades take place.

The Club recently had to undertake some repairs to the 15th Dam to stop a minor leak, this involved some major earth works adjacent to the 15th green. Although the turf that has since been laid may appear to be out of place, this will help mitigate the elevated risk of erosion.

Gents Pennant season

The Gents Pennant season will commence shortly with a Home game against Indooroopilly GC on 14/7.    As always, the boys are calling on members looking to support the side to get in touch with the Club (admin@keperragolf.com.au) for anyone looking to caddy for a player.  The full season's draw is listed below

14/7       Indooroopilly GC (H)

21/7       Brisbane GC (A)

28/7      Royal QLD GC (A)

4/8        Indooroopilly GC (A)

11/8        Brisbane GC (H)

18/8       Royal QLD GC (H)

The Club would like to also acknowledge and thank Member Phil Wuersching and Club Pennant Sponsor Jim's Test & Tag for his support of all our Teams.

2 Day Winter classic

After 2 days of chilly and wet conditions, the TeeMates 2-day Winter Classic has drew to a close on Tuesday.

Congratulations to all those that participated, especially the winners in their respective divisions.

Special mention to KCGC Members Mikayla Dyal (+6), Daniel Gould (+7), Jackson Grady (+7), Tian Jingheng (+12), Holam Law (+10), Ella Gould (+18), Charles Gould (+19).

Pace of Play

An alarming trend is starting to emerge regarding pace of play during the Club's Competitions.  During Winter, the need to remain vigilant in regards to your place in the field becomes paramount.  A few reminders which all members should adhere to while playing during a competition.

  • Looking for a lost ball is limited to a maximum 3 minutes (Rule of Golf).
  • Let shorter hitters hit first off tee blocks.
  • Play 'Ready golf'.

Ultimately, your place in the field is not in front of the group behind - IT IS DIRECTLY BEHIND THE GROUP IN FRONT.  The Club has seen several occasions whereby groups lose touch with the group in front and the issue becomes compounded for each group behind.

Ladies COrner

Winter is turning out some sensational golfing weather, and with it some great results.

First up was the Nell Harvey Foursomes final played on 11 June.  Winners on the final hold with Ruth Turnbull and Zena Bell, just knocking out Bev Beveridge and Pam Murray.  Congratulations Ruth and Zena.

June Midweek Monthly medals were won by:

A Grade - Julie Lakotij

B grade - Zena Bell

C Grade Debra White

Pennants

After the stunning, winning performance of the weekend ladies, the mid-week ladies pennants teams had one round to play in June to finish the season.  This happened with Nudgee winning the season undefeated.  Four teams were then neck-and-neck in the points.  Keperra ended up in 4 place, which was a little unlucky based on the total number of matches won.

A very creditable effort.  Congratulations and thanks to all players, caddies and other volunteers.

Upcoming Events

Christmas in July is on Tuesday 16th July.  We are playing a Las Vegas scramble with shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.  Prizes for golf and for best dressed team.

Looking forward to the great golfing weather continuing.
